Before some of you shippers flip your shit, please listen to what I have to day before commenting.
I really love WoY season 2 a lot and I was very happy we get a new villain and a story arc for once. And a female character that is, Dominator is a pretty fun character and a very manipulative badass.
However, I was a bit dissapointef with the direction the show is going for her character. Yes, I do mean Lord Hater having a crush on her instead of seeing her as a competitive rival. I never liked the idea of the DomN' Hater pairing and the idea of them as a ship really left a bad taste in my mouth.
And no, it's not because of yaoi ships (I don't even ship Skeleton Dance either ) or how it interferes with OC x canon (I ship Hater with an OC myself before Dom came along ), or how it interferes with other pairings. However, I'll explain my real reasons for my dislike for the ship.
1. Dominator being used as a romantic plot device seems a bit tiring. I mean, she doesn't even seem like a flirtatious character to begin with. I understand she only does it because of Hater's weakness towards women but it's still a tiring trope.
2. They're way too similar as if she's like his relative or sister. Yes, I get pairings should have similarities BUT they also need dif ferences for the relationship to balance. Too much uncommon and too much common interests wouldn't make both partners communicate well in chemistry. It's also pretty cliche of Hater did end up with her, because of them both being villains and similar appearances.
3. It's a very one-sided relationship. Honestly, they're not even in love and I don't see how it can even work. Hater at first despises her for pushing him of the leaderboard before discovering she was a woman. And once she was revealed, he was infatuated by her and that's not the same as being in love. You have to get to know someone before showing romantic interest in a person. Dom is very manipulative as seen in the recent episodes and shows no interest in romance. She's more of a heartbreaker than anything and just plays with Hater's emotions. Therefore, leads to an abusive relationship both mentally and physically. That won't set well for their relationship.
4. Wander's idea of them dating not only makes the idea bad, but he needs to know how real love works. For an example, Garnet from Steven Universe even had to get that through Jamie's head that true love at first sight doesn't exist and love takes time. Even on "The Hero" episode of WoY towards the end, Princess Demurra and her husband even explained to Wander that relationships aren't like happy ending and need a lot of work. I hope this is where Craig is going for because Wander needs to know how relationships really work.
5. Shipping wars.... Even though pairings shouldn't be a reason to hate the ship, but this pairing almost caused shipping wars in the fandom back in tumblr. Thankfully, the WoY fandom is still sane despite some bad apple and isn't near s Steven Universe's level.
Now you guys don't have to agree, you can still ship. However, keep in mind not everyone likes the same ships. I love both characters and they make awesome villains... However, putting them together doesn't equal an good pairing.(in my opinion tbh ) I requested this just in case of anyone else feels the same way about this ship.
